Since August 2012, Sue Novak has been an assistant professor of PR and journalism at the State University of New York at Potsdam. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas in 2012; her dissertation (“Countering Foundational Myths and Cultural Beliefs: The Reportage of Anna Politkovskaya”) combined her love of journalism, communication, and Russian studies.
Novak has 35 years of editing experience in various fields, including archeology, mammalogy, herpetology, wetlands studies, and history. In addition to her freelance work, she spent 13 years in magazine and academic journal publishing, writing, editing, design, and layout (Kansas History and Kansas Heritage), and for about five years she wrote a monthly pro bono newspaper column on behalf of the Lawrence (Kansas) Humane Society (available through http://www2.ljworld.com).
